Of Swamps And Fairiesby `OchreJelly

This is what I've been working on the past two and a half weeks or so. It started out as a simple pencil doodle to try out a different way of coloring digitally (in a haphazard manner), but it totally spiralled out of control into a fully digital painting. I think I need to plan these things out a bit more, becaue there are certain aspects that I'm not sure of, so I suppose the goal next time will be to plan these things out a bit more! I would like to draw better trees and leaves, mostly, so if anyone happens to know of some tricks, I'd really appreciate it.

The subject is just your random mythical woodland fairy, possibly a dryad. I was basically trying to make it seem like she's part tree, hence the long fingers, the leaves and grass and general plantness wrapped around her. I'm not sure if I meant to make it seem like the foliage was a part of her or not...I'll leave it up to you.

All-in-all, it was fun to try something completely different. Next time I do something like this I'm going to go about it a bit more carefully. Thank you very much for taking a look. ^_^

I love this!

I would be very curious to see it in brighter greens, or even perhaps an Autumn theme.

But it's absolutely gorgeous as it is. ^.^

This one is pretty old, but I've always wanted to revisit it.

Autumn theme sounds nice, might give that a try when I have some time to devote to it.

I wonder why the heck didn't this get more attention when it got a DD, I love it, I love the way colors look when they are this desaturated, this is incredible, is like this the way I want my work to look someday.

How do you manage to achieve such muted and desaturated colors?

Actually back when this first got featured (2005) it got a large amount of attention, from my perspective at least, being a rather unknown artist.

The reason the favourites are so low is because in late 2008 I put my entire gallery into storage to test a bug out, and it erased the favourite counts on all my deviations somehow.

As for the colours question, I was a big fan of muted greens and blues.

Also I avoided black and real dark colours so everything ended up a similar tone.
