...or, the alternate title..."I use too much blue highlighting"

Anyway, this is some random thing I did for 4 hours this evening. I don't know where it came from, I don't know where it's going, and I don't know if it's going to be home in time for dinner. I just wanted to draw a face and got...carried away, I guess. I was trying to go fast and be less detail oriented and more...feeling oriented if that makes any sense. I was trying to get this done in under 2 hours or so, but it never works out that way for me. Although I'm glad it didn't take me too long like the last time I tried something similar.

This was painted from my head. I've always wondered who it is that I paint when I don't use a reference. Is it a composite of people I know? Is it a set of features I find attractive? Is it what I would look like as a girl?! =P I'm curious....

My rambling aside, thanks for looking. ^^ And the title is french for "of the sun" or something like that. It's called adding fake class to a boring title. XD

EDIT: Okay, I went back and tried to make her hair seem more thick. I think it looks a bit better now, maybe, although white hair is a hard color to work with. >_< Also, I tweaked almost everything...skin, lighting, you name it, I went back and reworked it a bit. Hope it looks a bit better now. ^^

Incredible...the accents on her lips and nose are particuarly nice. The clouds look a bit rough, but that's only a nitpick. Overall amazing piece.

You did a great job of coloring this. As for people that draw from the top of their head, they tend to add their own features on the character. But I doubt that is the case with you since you must have a lot of experience with drawing people.

All I do is draw people it seems. I should draw a landscape or two just to break the cycle, perhaps. ^^;

Haha, now THAT's an interesting comment. XD But yeah, there's something off with her face, but I merged all the layers together by accident, so looks like it's over with. ^^;

Okay, don't laugh. I love her armpit. The shading there and along her arm and chest is so realistic... you really have skin tones and shadows on skin DOWN!! I just love it. I will comment on the rest when i get time, I promise... I've been working more this month than usual, which is cramping my pioneer time which is limiting my DA time; oh well, life happens sometimes, eh?

Hehe, I'd never laugh at that, because I get my interest piqued by odd things in artwork too....an arm, a knee, a tree, etc.

And yes, life happens right when you don't want it too, I think. ^^;

I think it came out well - especially for something done fairly quickly (anything under - say, 6 hours, is 'quick' to me) :)
Not having a reference for people is very difficult (faces in particular). I'm not sure it's really that people are more difficult to draw than other things - it's just that people are naturally wired to perceive the little things much better when they are looking at people than at other objects - if something is even a tiny bit 'off' it tends to stand out a lot more.

(unintentional saving of merged layers is like a paranoia with me... imo, the 'save' and 'save as' tabs should not be anywhere near each other :| )

YAY!!!!! More color work! Good job on the coloring of her skin, I love the soft, angel like quality to it! Only thing that you might consider fixing is her lip on her right side. It seems a little too pronounced compared to the left side in this particular angle. Wish I could have seen the before and after though. Curse me and my lethargy! :shakefist:

Sorry for the delayed comment too, I'm falling pitifully behind on all my reading/ looking on DA.

Good point about her lip. I'll have to keep it in mind next time, because I accidentally merged the layers together and saved over the image. x_x

And hey, this reply is 4 days overdue, so it's no problem at all. XD

It looks great, OchreJelly :3 The hair could still be bit thicker to look more real. I love her skin and what a lovely expression ^^ And those boobs. ...did I write that? <_< Also, when those clouds would be bit softer bit more clearly cloud-like, it would be totally fantastic.
You are so talented *huggles*

Oops, sorry for the late reply. :doh:

Anyway, this is the tutorial i looked at to get a general idea on how to do hair: [link] and there's some cool ones here too: [link] I really wouldn't be able to draw hair quite the same way I do know if I didn't have a tablet though, so i guess keep that in mind. ^^;

Very lovely work, I like the soft, pastel feeling to this picture and her eyes are eerie almost, sort of cat like, sort of metallic. Maybe it's just me, but I like em :)

Well, the eyes are sort of a leftover from the start of the drawing, when I was aiming to make a sort of sea-elf type creature. I made these funky looking eyes and never really changed them because...well, I was originally trying to go fast and I guess it just got lost in the mix. ^^;

That's amazing. It's just like the Profile pictures off of Neverwinter Nights. Everything's awesome, If there was any form of input I could provide it would be to slamt between the eyes and the brows to give the face more depth. Kudos times one million. :)

I wish I could just spontaneously draw stuff like you. >;P

On a more serious note, this is a great piece, especially for no reference being used. The proportions in the face are spot-on! I especially like those lips. And as ScarletHawk said, there's no such thing as too much highlighting. ^_^ And as for the "feeling" part of it you were talking about, I think it comes across very well- I get the feeling of spontaneity from this one... like she's going to grab your hand and take you somewhere. Or something. I dunno. I'm rambling. XD

She looks beautiful, and so does the colour scheme *__* I can't draw realistic-looking faces of the top of my head.. how do you do that ? I really like her nose and lips.

Also, there's no such thing as too much blue highlighting XD !

Perhaps. :P

As for drawing realistic faces off the top of my head, well, for me it's a trial-and-error thing, combined with staring at people's faces for long periods of time! (Pictures, not strangers at the mall. :P) And ,really, I draw a very similar type of face every time I don't use a reference (especially in the nose and lips areas) so it's not like I'm pulling these things out of thin air; I could say that I've drawn this face a lot. :P

Still, no matter what, thank you very much for the comment and compliment. I appreciate it a whole lot. ^_^
