Call of the Siren by OchreJelly Call of the Siren by OchreJelly
This is a bit of an oddity. I started fixing a past piece, and just ended up doing a near-complete paintover of it. The only elements left are some of the scales and the right arm. Everything else is new. :)

Anyway, I really don't have much to say about it. It's a bit unbalanced and I still am trying to figure out water, but it's a step in the right direction. It's really loose again like my previous piece, mostly because I wasn't too concerned with details as much as colour. The lighting is abit uneven due to the fact I switched lightsources several times.

The title is irrelevant, I just liked it. *shrug* Anyway, hope you like it. Thanks for looking.

Beautifully done. So much detail, this must have been so difficult to create.

It not being balanced works in this way I think. Thinking that the voice of a siren would kind of twist the world, or your view of it. I really like that it looks like it does :)

Fabulous! It has a great ambience, I love the colours, the composition and all the details. The only thing I find a bit strange are the white dots at the mountain in the background (is it a river?) and her right arm/shoulder/back. The line at her upper back/neck that marks her backbone looks a bit weird to me but I cannot tell why so I'm probably wrong anyways :D The way you work in your signature just catched my eye, it's great o_o

I like how experimental you've been getting with your backgrounds, especially in the skies. And how you kind of limit your pallette. It really gives your work a since on continuinity. Love the lighting in this and the way you paint your rocks! They're so textured!

Yeah, I've been trying to do a few new things with the stuff I usually paint; I will admit that most of my pics have skies in them and they could use some variety. :] So it's a start! Thanks. :D

As far as improvement goes, definately, lol. The main features tha tI feel you've improved on is the clouds and lighting effects. It feels a greater emphasis is brought on the clouds here and the spiraling natire of the landscape brings you tunneling into the distance. I love the foreground with equal intensity, the only concern I have is the water being a little too stiff if you understand the expression. I feel it should be free-er, at the moment it feels too static. Creating a varied texture can help illustrate depth, or softening particles of water should create an awareness of focal points and movement. Keep it up. :)

It might not be "perfect" with regards to compostition, but the flow seems to work anyway, I assume it's supposed to be a little chaotic?
The motion of the waves and the clouds is nice, it was only after a while I actually noticed the siren I was so busy looking at the rest of it!

This is truly a beautiful intergration of colors that set the mood perfectly. I like the clashing waves against the rocks and the curvy structure of the clouds and hilltops. I wonder the Siren's immediate intention is and where she is headed? A journey of sorts, perhaps? :+fav:

The most beautiful skies are early in the morning, but it's only during those few minutes after the first light. :)
